OASIS in Atlanta was launched in mid-June for on-demand rentals on the platform Kinema.com. It has been a long and winding journey.
The filming began in 2007 when I was approached by a person in the public relations business who wanted to do a documentary on my book, In My Father’s House: Lessons Learned in the Home of a Civil Rights Pioneer. We experienced many twists and turns, which I have learned is standard in the documentary business. Unfortunately, he passed away during the process. Through the miraculous provision of God, some of his footage made it into the completed version.
Although I never gave up on the prospect of completing a documentary, I must admit that I often thought it was a lost cause. In approximately 2022, God led me to connect with Nea Paris of Paris Campaigns and Creative of Chattanooga, TN who helped me with creation of this website and branding. I was also led to connect with Janelle and Kevin Batts of Red River Creative Media from Tulsa, OK. As a team, we also experienced our share of twists, turns and delays including Janelle and Kevin relocating to the Houston, TX area.
God continued to supply an abundance of perseverance (James 1:2-3). The result is OASIS in Atlanta.
Kinema offers the ability for individuals to rent the film or gift a rental to a friend. It also offers the ability for a group, such as a non-profit to host a screening either in-person or virtually. Groups can even utilize it as a fundraiser. We believe that groups or individuals interested in history, especially history about the Civil Rights movement or interested in spirituality will appreciate our documentary. Our prayer is that this film will lead people of Christ and contribute to racial healing in our country.
We feel blessed to have obtained financial sponsorship from the Southern Documentary Fund of Durham, NC, and to have obtained approval for distribution from Kinema.
I cannot adequately express my appreciation for and pride in our team. The sacrifices each has made will remain in my heart the rest of my life.
