Today is the launch of my new website. I guess no one enters a venture like this unless
he (or she) feels he has something to say. I am no different.
I’m not doing this to get famous. I’m not famous now, and I’m too old to build fame. I’m
doing this to impart some knowledge from the accumulation of years, experiences and
careers. Yes, plural. There have been four, cost accountant, real estate salesman
(both residential and commercial), securities broker/investment advisor, and tax
preparer/researcher/Enrolled Agent.
Some would consider this a sign of instability. I suppose a case could be made by
some for that opinion. Life has had a way of changing my circumstances. Economic
policy changes affecting markets have played a role but offered invaluable lessons. A
couple of horrible supervisors played a role, but there were some good ones, as well. I
was a Who Moved My Cheese guy long before it was published in 1998. If you haven’t
read it, I highly recommend it. Kudos to the author, Spencer Johnson. Though I had
lived my life in that manner, reading this book gave a new perspective to my life and
played a role in a beneficial career move in 2000. That career move led to the birth of
my only biological child as well as becoming a stepfather to four.
There are three passions that will drive content on this website: my faith, politics and
sports. There have been a lot of experiences. In spite of being an extremely shy child, in my
adult life I have sung a solo in front of 10,000 people; spoken in front of large groups on
behalf of a presidential candidate; preached a sermon that was simulcast on AM and
FM radio in a large city; served on not-for-profit boards as well as a state commission;
managed employees; parented (mistakes and successes); taken sixteen professional
licensing exams across three industries; and made more sales cold calls than I like to
remember. Some lasting friendships resulted from some of those cold calls, however.
In addition, I have written a book which gave me experience in research.
These experiences have led to a lot of opinions which will be expressed here. I am not
threatened by opposing viewpoints. I do love the good, civil debate.
In listing these experiences, there is no attempt to boast or, as I said, become famous.
It is simply an attempt to build credibility. I am reminded of one of my favorite scriptures,
“May I never boast, except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me and I to the world.” Galatians 6:14 (NIV)
Well said Bob, and congratulations on launching your website. As you know, I too enjoy a good civil debate. I believe you have much to offer. I look forward to hearing more from you via the website.
